Helen P. McDermott, 89, Washburn, MO, formerly of Independence, MO passed away Nov. 20, 2011. Services will be 2 pm, Wed. Nov. 23 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052; interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 – 8 pm, Tuesday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 3846 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208.
Helen was born June 30, 1922 in Sugar Creek, MO. She worked for Hewlett-Packard Corp. in California for twenty-five years and retired in 1975. She was a Catholic. She was a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center in Santa Clara, CA before moving back to the Independence area twelve years ago.
Helen was preceded in death by a granddaughter Kendal O’Cana. She is survived by daughter Carolyn Torrisi, Washburn, MO; granddaughter Stacy Siler, Wheaton, MO; grandson Mike Cook and wife Sandy, Washburn, MO; great-grandchildren Anegla, Brenden, Josh, Michael, Alex and Savannah.
