James Mceldery

January 14, 1918 — October 13, 2011

James L. McEldery, 93, of Lee’s Summit, MO, formerly of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, October 13, 2011. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2011 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Visitation will be 2-4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2011 in the chapel. Burial in Mound Grove Cemetery. James was born January 14, 1918 in Exline, IA to George Leslie and Alberta Evalyn (Beard) McElderry. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. McEldery retired in 1978 from Standard Oil after 35 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Community of Christ where he served as Elder. Mr. McEldery could always be found with a camera in hand taking pictures of family and friends. James enjoyed vegetable gardening and was blessed with a beautiful singing voice. Mr. McEldery loved taking his family on camping trips to state parks, teaching them about nature and the outdoors. He is survived by his six children, Claude McEldery and wife Gayla, Linda Priest and husband Charles, Harold McEldery, Martin Alan McEldery, James L. McEldery and wife Pamela, Margaret McEldery; ten grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; half-sister Alice. James was preceded in death by his wife Alice Lee; daughter-in-law Cindy; granddaughter Milinda; sister Imogene Robison.
