Yoshiko McGinness, 82, of Independence, MO passed away Monday, November 2, 2015. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm Thursday, November 5th at Carson Speaks. The funeral service will be held at Carson Speaks Chapel on W. Lexington Ave. in Independence. 10:00am Friday, November 6th at the chapel. A graveside committal service will be conducted at 12:30pm Friday, at Leavenworth National Cemetery, KS.
Yoshiko was born June 6, 1933 in Nagano, Japan to Hana and Takio Kohara. She was one of five daughters. Her sister’s names are Toshiko, Sumiko, Michiko, and Mikie. She met her beloved Walter McGinness while he served in the US Air Force in Japan. They married on July 29, 1956 and together raised five daughters. She worked as a baker for Tippins for over ten years. She touched many lives and was loved by all those she touched.
Survivors include daughters, Jean Ann Walker (Jerry) of Independence, MO; Cherrel Fuller (Daniel) of Independence, MO; Debra Wooldridge (William) of Carthage, MO; Caren “Suko” McGinness (Jim Husbenet) of Kansas City, MO; and Janet McGinness of Short Hills, NJ; grandchildren; Sarah (Ryan) Baker, Keri Walker, Lori (Joe) Dane, Danielle Fuller, Brandi Fuller, Ashley (Gage) McKinnis, Claire Kissane, Molly Kissane, and great grandchildren; Mackenzie Hankins, Caden Dane, Bryce Dane, Ellie Taylor, Bentley Shull, Emi Lou Baker, Nolan Baker and numerous other family members in Japan. In lieu of flowers the family encourages contributions to Crossroads Hospice or Alzheimer’s Association in her memory.
