Robert (Bob) McKim, 91, passed away December 13th, 2013. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. and a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 19th, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501, West Lexington, Independence, Missouri. Interment will follow in Mound Grove Cemetery.
Bob grew up in Independence, Missouri. He graduated from William Chrisman High School and then began studies at the University of Kansas City (UMKC). He served in World War II as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in France and Germany, as well as with the occupation forces after the War.
Following his service, he completed a degree in electrical engineering at the University of Kansas, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Bob's professional career as an engineer included management and consulting positions with Standard Oil (Amoco), A.C. Kirkwood & Associates and Burns & McDonnell.
Bob loved his family and taught his children to be independent and resourceful. He took pride in maintaining his home, cars and fixing almost anything electronic. He was a HAM Radio operator and built his own equipment. Bob was also an avid reader, especially of history, and enjoyed fly fishing and hunting. He mastered the harmonica during the War and continued playing it over the years. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children and their spouses: Robb (Jane), Dave (Marita Barkis), and JoLinda (Dan Russell); eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given in Bob's memory to the University of Kansas Endowment Association, designated for the School of Engineering, PO Box 928, Lawrence, KS 66044.
