Harold “Hal” McRaven, 71, of Independence, MO passed away February 11, 2010. Services will be 11:00 am Monday, February 15, 2010 at St. Mathews United Methodist Church in Independence, MO. Hal was born in Granite City, IL to Thomas and Lillian (Wilson) McRaven on August 9, 1938. Upon graduation from Southern Illinois University, he worked for W. T. Grant Company. After 10 years with Grant’s, Hal realized his dream and bought a restaurant, The Alpine, in Janesville, WI. Hal, along with his wife, operated The Alpine Restaurant for 23 years. His hands-on role played a vital part in building The Alpine into an intregral part of the community. They then settled in Independence, MO after retirement. Hal was a caring, sensitive individual that touched everyone that knew him. Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 48 years, Fran McRaven; daughter Vanessa McRaven of St. Louis, MO; son Jeff McRaven of Eau Claire, WI; brother Dr. Donald McRaven of Peoria, IL; sister Carolyn Roscich of Naperville, IL.; three grandchildren, Robert, Elizabeth, and Connor McRaven, all of Eau Claire, WI. Hal is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Thomas McRaven. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
