Gene McVey, 84, of Kansas City, MO passed away May 10, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. service on Wednesday, May 15, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO. Burial will take place at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Mr. McVey was born on September 5, 1928 in Chillicothe, MO to Ross and Nina McVey. He was an amazing husband, brother, father and grandpa. He was the family Patriarch. Gene worked for many years at Blacks Sivalls and Bryson, and then went to work for and retired from Belger Carthage. When he was younger he volunteered with the Boy Scouts. He was also a beloved member of the Eagles 3717 for many years. Gene was preceded by his wife of 64 years, Anastisia (Shane) McVey; one son, Joseph McVey; a grandson, Ross Roark; and lifelong friend, Joe Stewart. He is survived by a daughter, Marsha Roark and husband Dave of Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Laura Conway of Sarasota, FL and Sue Justus and husband Charles of Auburn, NE; brother-in-law, Pete Shane and wife Janice; three grandchildren, Jodi Roark, Rene Sullivan and David Roark; six great grandsons; two special great granddaughters, Kyra and Kailee Rivera, his “muffins”; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was a father figure to many. Heartfelt thanks to Carolyn and Bobby Johnson for their love and care of Gene. Contributions may be made in Gene’s name to Northcare Hospice.
