Vivian Elaine Meadows, 70, of Blue Springs, MO, went to meet her Lord on the 8th day of May, 2007. A memorial service celebrating Elaine’s life will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2007 at the Parkview Congregation of the Community of Christ church located at 19th and Park in Blue Springs, MO. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1-2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Groves Community Hospice, 1515 W. White Oak, Independence, MO 64050. Cremation with private burial in Lobb Cemetery. Elaine was born in Oneida, NY on July 20, 1936 to James Marvin and Myrtle May (Walker) Culbertson. At the age of five, her family moved to Wichita, KS where she resided until attending college in Winfield, KS. She finished her undergraduate work at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, KS. It was there, that she met Richard Lloyd Meadows and they were married August 31, 1957. Elaine was a celebrated school teacher for thirty years, twenty-eight, for the R-4 school district in Blue Springs, MO where she taught the elementary grades. Amongst her many passions was the opportunity to establish the “Beyond The Basics” program for gifted and talented students. She touched many young lives. During the years she continued her education, receiving her masters and specialist degrees from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO. Elaine had many interests, she loved music, played the hammer dulcimer, guitar and piano. She wrote and published children’s books, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Daughters of Union Veterans of the War 1863-1865. She was a member of the Community of Christ (RLDS) Church attending the Parkview Congregation for the past 41 years. Mrs. Meadows was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband Richard L. “Dick” Meadows of the home; daughter Julie Ann Goins; sons Richard Dwayne and Steven Lloyd and their families.
