Ken Melichar

Ken Melichar, 60, of Independence, MO, passed away, Saturday, August 15, 2009. Cremation is planned with a memorial visitation from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday evening, August 22, 2009, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Kansas City Hospice. Ken was born July 14, 1949 in St. Louis, MO to Arnold and Doris (Mozier) Melichar. He had worked as a switchman for Kansas City Southern Railroad for 20 years before he retired in 2008. He enjoyed restoring antique cars and enjoyed antique juke boxes. He was past president of the local Railroaders Union in Kansas City. Ken is survived by his wife, Gerri Melichar; a daughter, Tammie Wright; his parents, Arnold and Doris Melichar; 3 sisters, Shirley Baur, Jeanette Melichar and Alice Pipkins; a brother, Eugene Melichar; a step daughter, Jill Cowan; a step son, Brock Porterfield and 7 grandchildren.
