Beatrice V. Mengel, 95, of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later time.
Beatrice was born April 23, 1920 in Woodbine, IA, as one of seven children to Frank and Ida Sarah Jane (Reynolds) Butterworth. She graduated from William Chrisman High School class of 1938. She married Irvin Floyd Mengel on September 27, 1946 and together raised four boys. Bea has always been a talented musician, playing piano for her family’s church and others, as well as teaching music to numerous students out of her home. She is a multi generation Community of Christ member and was the Music Director for Walnut Park for numerous years. She also served as chaplain for many hospitals including Independence Regional. She was a devoted wife and mother diligent in her life of serving others. Her family remembers her passion for music, singing, poetry, and healthy living. She is thought of as patient, gracious, soft spoken, enthusiastic, and loving.
Survivors include son, Elliot Floyd Mengel and wife Tonya of Weatherford, TX; son, Philip Byron Mengel of Brisbane, Australia; and sons, Leslie Frank Mengel and Dana Paul Mengel, wife Tammy, all of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Emmanuel F., Tara, Max, and Casey Mengel; and three great grandchildren. Bea was preceded in death by her siblings, Velva and Lois Davis, Robert, Frank Edward, Bernard, and Kenneth Butterworth; beloved husband, Floyd; and granddaughter, Gloria R. Mengel.
