Michael F. Duffin, affectionately known as Mike, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, in Independence, Missouri. Born on April 18, 1938, in Clinton, Missouri, Mike lived a life marked by creativity, warmth, and a deep love of family and friends.

Mike attended Clinton High School. There he met the love of his life, Mary. They were married for 67 years. Their two children and four grandchildren enjoyed trips, lake time, and holidays with Mike and Mary. His educational journey took him to Central Missouri State University (CMSU), where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity and earned his bachelor's degree.

A gifted artist, Mike dedicated his professional career to the world of design, specializing in creating compelling trade show and museum exhibits at Display Studios, where he retired as President. While at Display Studios, Mike was proud to have designed and worked with the NCAA on both their traveling Final Four exhibit and the Kansas City area visitors center. He worked with professional sports teams. He had the honor of being involved with producing the exhibits for the Negro Leagues Hall of Fame in 1997. His passion for design and his commitment to excellence left an indelible mark on his field. 

Known far and wide as a true people person, Mike never met a stranger. His genuine kindness and unwavering support touched the lives of many. Always there for those he cared about, his friendships and relationships were characterized by loyalty and warmth. Mike’s social nature extended beyond personal connections; he was an active member of a men’s group, participated in his church community, and regularly gathered with close friends several times each week to share stories and laughter during happy hour.

Beyond his professional and social life, Mike cherished his many hobbies and interests. A lover of the water, he found great joy in sailing and often sought the tranquil embrace of lakes and oceans. He was a traveler, a sports fan, and a snow skier. Mike was active in Boy Scouts from his son’s early years through the Eagle award. He and Mary were members of Blue Ridge United Methodist Church for over 50 years, and currently, The Summit Church. His appreciation for life also shone through in his love of music and savoring a good glass of wine, moments that provided relaxation and pleasure amid a busy and engaged life.

Mike’s legacy of love and creativity is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Duffin; his children, Kathy Welt (Darin) and Greg Duffin (Sarah); his grandchildren, Joshua Welt (Mackenzie), Grant Welt (Victoria), Michelle Duffin, and Daniel Duffin; and his brother, Frank Swygert (Sherrie).

Services at The Summit Church, 3381 NW Chipman Road, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081, June 30, 2026. A visitation will begin at 10 am, and a funeral service will begin at 11 am with food and refreshments to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Summit Church to support the local community.
