Michael Dale (Mike) Holmes passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the age of 85. He now joins his loving wife, Cathy along with his mother, Lela Elizabeth, father, Harris Neal Holmes and son, Todd Brian Holmes in eternal rest. Mike was Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri. He began his engineering career at the age of 17 as a senior in Southeast High School while working part time as a draftsman for HNT&B. After obtaining his engineering license in 1967 he worked in the automotive industry as a project engineer for Hesse Carriage Company for 3 years. He then moved on to Intercon Engineering in Parkville where he was a detailer/designer for 10 years and then to Brunson Instrument Company for 11 years where he became Vice President of the company. Mike was mayor of Riverside, MO from 1982 to 1987 before moving to Independence.
It was at Brunson where he met his wife, Cathy and they were married February 25, 1989 at the Ports 'O Call chapel in San Pedro CA. In March of 1992 Cathy and Mike started their own business, IMTEC Group Ltd. a consulting company serving the marine and nuclear power industries which they operated until their retirement in 2023.
From 1989 through 1993 Mike and Cathy showed Arabian horses as a hobby. They were dog lovers and in 2015 began showing dogs as a hobby and showed Shih Tzu's all over the country for nearly 8 years. When not traveling for business or the dogs, Mike and Cathy enjoyed dining out weekly with friends and were regulars at area restaurants for many years.
Mike is survived by his daughters, Brigitte Spinski (Blue Springs, MO) and Michelle Kia (Overland Park, KS); sons, Troy Holmes (Kansas City, MO) and Anthony Holmes (Columbia, MO); sister, Sherrill Callahan (Kansas City, MO.); granddaughter, Annie Peterson (Lee's Summit, MO) and 4 great-grandsons.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, September 19th from 2-4pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri.
