Merle M. Mika, 82, Sugar Creek, MO passed away April 11, 2013. A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:30 pm, Tuesday, April 16 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052, followed by visitation until 8:30 pm. Cremation. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Omega Hospice, 3171 N.E. Carnegie Drive, Lee’s Summit, MO 64064. Merle was born Oct. 17, 1930 in Emporia, KS. She graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City before she began her working career which ended with her retirement after fifteen years at Kenworth-Dart Company. She was a member of St. Cyril’s Catholic Church and was a Past President of the Women’s Auxiliary VFW Post #1000, the Cooties and the Sugar Creek PTA. She loved to shop, work in her flower gardens and yard and hang out with her best friend and neighbor, Mary Lou Francis. She was a huge fan of the Royals and Chiefs. She attended the famous I-70 World Series in 1985 when the Royals defeated the Cardinals and was at Super Bowl IV when the Chiefs beat the Vikings for their only Super Bowl Championship. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandkids and family. Merle was preceded in death by son John L. Mika; daughter-in-law Janie Mika; two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her husband of sixty-two years John Mika, of the home; son Mark Mika; daughter JoAnn Davis and husband Dwight; grandchildren Sarah Guardiola and husband Rony, Mark Mika and wife Amy; Diana Baber and husband Chad; all of Independence, MO; Laura Mika, Buckner, MO; Dustin Davis, Los Angeles, CA; great-grandchildren Kailey, Aron, Rylan, Jake and Coye.
