Clarence J. Miller, 92, of Kansas City, MO, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, July 3, 2015.
The family will receive friends and guests at Oakwood Baptist Church, 7600 Lees Summit Road, Kansas City, MO, 64139, on Saturday, July 25, 2015, from 1:00-2:00pm. A celebration of life service will immediately follow at 2:00pm. He will be laid to rest at Mount Washington Cemetery, Independence, MO, at a private graveside service with full military honors.
Clarence was born April 4, 1923, in Kansas City, MO, as an only child to John and Ina (Maupin) Miller.
He served in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific as a radio operator. After returning home from the war, he went to work at the General Motors Fairfax, KS, plant.
On July 9, 1948, he married his beloved wife, Donna Hess, and together they raised two daughters.
Clarence and his wife were long time members of Oakwood Baptist Church. Recently he obtained his dual membership at Church of the Four Corners where his grandson is the pastor.
He enjoyed flying. He spent 30 years completely restoring a twin engine Comanche airplane. He also enjoyed woodworking and, after retiring from General Motors, went to work in his friend’s woodworking shop for many years. After leaving the woodworking shop, he helped in the repair of helicopters.
He will be remembered as quiet and always willing to help others.
Survivors include daughter, Vicki Miller, of Belton, MO; daughter, Debbie Kackley and husband David of Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren: Jennie Kackley-Doran, Chris Kackley, Craig Kackley and wife Laura; great-grandchildren: Ashtyn, Liam, Hughie, Olive, and Brynlen; sister-in-law, Doris Hansen of Overland Park, KS; many nieces and nephews; and Sally Powers (a daughter in his heart). He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and daughter, Norma Sue Miller.
