Gordon “Gene” Eugene Miller, born July 7, 1952, resident of Independence, after a courageous battle with Myotonic Dystrophy, passed away peacefully at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence on January 17. Gene was born and raised in Carrollton, Missouri, and married Christine Schoon on March 14, 1987. Their only child, Kara Willis, completed their family on March 16, 1988. He was one of two children born to the late Gordon James and Melissa “Ruth” Lathrop Miller and was the beloved younger brother of Carolyn R. Mahoney. Gene will forever be remembered by his loving wife Chris Miller, adored sister Carolyn R. Mahoney, and cherished child Kara Willis, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. Gene touched the lives of many people with his love and knowledge. A visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at Christ United Methodist Church, 14506 E. 39th St. South, Independence, MO. Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, at Van Horn Cemetery in Carrollton, MO.
