Stephen L. Miller, 60, Independence, MO, succumbed to a courageous eighteen month battle of cancer on June 19, 2015. Services will be 10 am, Wed. June 24 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Tuesday at the chapel. Steve will be laid to rest in Mount Washington Cemetery, along with historical figure and mountain man Jim Bridger. Memorial contributions may be made in Steve’s name to the charity of your choice. Steve was born Aug. 23, 1954 at the Great Lakes Naval Base Hospital, Illinois, and lived in Independence, Missouri most of his life. He graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1972. He obtained a Bachelors Degree in Finance and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. In addition, he was an adjunct instructor in the Business and Finance Department at Baker University. Steve worked many years in the banking and finance industry, most recently as a Credit Manager for Central Bank. Steve had a passion for history, especially the Civil War, and was a member of many historical societies and organizations. Steve was an avid softball player and umpire. He was fiercely loyal to his teammates and cherished their friendship. He also enjoyed golf and was a Kansas City Royals, Chiefs, and MU sports fan. Steve was a devoted Christian and Elder in the Mid-West Church of God. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Lawrence E. Miller. He is survived by his son, Mr. Zachary S. Miller, Idaho Falls, Idaho, his mother, Mrs. Beverly L. Miller, Independence, Missouri, his beloved sister, Mrs. Stephanie J. Dumolt and husband Mark, Kansas City, Missouri, and his favorite niece, Ms. Ashley N. Dumolt, Kansas City, Missouri, and several cousins.
