July 23, 1919 — February 20, 2011

Mary Elizabeth Mitchell, 91 of Raytown, MO passed away, Sunday, February 20, 2011 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Wednesday at the chapel. Donations may be made to the Kansas City Hospice House 12000 Wornall Rd. Kansas City, MO 64145. Mary was born July 23, 1919 in Jameson, MO to Herman Franklin and Bessie B. (Taylor) Mikes. She had worked as a self-employed beautician for a number of years before she retired. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, canning, fishing and was an avid KC Royals fan. She also enjoyed traveling and spent summers in Minnesota. She was a member of the S. Crysler Restoration Branch. She was married to Vern Mitchell in 1939; he preceded her in death on October 20, 2007. Survivors include; a daughter, Sharon Walker and husband Jerry of Kansas City, MO; a son, Robert Mitchell and wife Kay of Blue Springs, MO; 3 grandchildren, Gary Walker, Tracee Ryan and Heather Mitchell; 5 great grandchildren, Joshua Ryan, Rebekah Ryan, Jordan Hamm, Spencer Walker and Melanie Davis; 1 great great grandson, Damon Smith; a sister-in-law, Janelle Mikes and numerous nieces and nephews. A sister and 4 brothers preceded her in death.
