James V. “Jim” Montgomery, 78, Independence, MO passed away May 30, 2009 at his home. Graveside services with Full Military Honors will be at 2:00 pm, Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, MO. Visitation will be 6 �" 8 pm, Wed. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence, MO. The family suggests contributions to Cancer Action, 4010 S. Lynn Ct., Independence, MO 64055.
Jim was born Sept. 10, 1930 in Clinton, MO, grew up there and graduated from Clinton High School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served his country during the Korean War era. He served tours of duty as a communications instructor at Scott Air Force Base, Belleville, IL, and was stationed in Germany and Turkey. Jim was a quality control inspector at the GM Leeds Plant for twenty-six years until the plant closed in 1987. He was a proud member of UAW Local #93, American Legion Post #21 and Eastgate Christian Church. Jim was active with the Boy Scouts with his son, Doug, and went on many camp-outs and float trips. He also enjoyed hunting deer, duck and quail, fishing and traveling with his wife Luwana in their fifth wheel.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents George & Verna Montgomery, brother Emmett Montgomery and sister Dorothy Bradley. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Luwana Montgomery, of the home; daughter Lea Ann Palermo and husband Doug, Olathe, KS; son Doug Montgomery and his companion Terri Ryning, Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren Matt Montgomery and wife Nicki; Alison Palermo; Ross Palermo; great-grandchildren Dustin & Cassie Montgomery; brothers Bob Montgomery, Clinton, MO; Frank Montgomery and wife Pat, Calhoun, MO; sisters Georgia Ross and husband Paul, Urich, MO; Martha Keck and husband Jim, Clinton, MO.
