Lee R. Moore, 83, passed away June 8, 2015, at St. Luke’s Hospice House surrounded by loved ones. Lee was born in Pilot Grove, MO to Sarah Jane Marie Howard and Joseph R. Moore on February 2, 1932. He was married to Carol Sue Morrow in Kansas City, MO on June 11, 1954. Lee is a U.S. Navy Combat veteran of the Korean War. He maintained a lifetime membership of the American Legion Post 21, VFW Post 1000 and the Korean War Veteran’s Association. He is a plank owner member of the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C. Following his military service, Lee became employed at the U.S. Postal Service and retired after 35 years. Lee also attended Central Missouri State University and was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society for teacher education. He and his wife are members of the First United Methodist Church of Independence, MO. Lee loved to be surrounded by his grandchildren and enjoyed camping. He was a member of the United Methodist Camping Club and Chief Winnies Camping Club. Mr. Moore is preceded in death by his mother and father, sister Mary Ward, sister Jo Ann White, brother Dale Moore, and grandbaby Jake. He is survived by his wife, Carol, of 61 years, 2 daughters; Michelle Franklin and her husband Rick, and Carolee Lortz. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren (Chad, Sarah, Brad, Kalee, Joe, LeeAnna, and Rebeka) and four great grandchildren (Ariah, Abby, Anna, and Braxton). Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Friday, June 12, 2015 at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Services will be 10am Saturday at the Chapel. Burial with Military Honors will be in Mound Grove Cemetery.
