Paul Gerald Moyer, 77, Independence, MO passed away July 25, 2011 at his home. Funeral services will be at 10 am, Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Independence Missouri Stake, 5609 Norfleet Rd., Kansas City, MO 64133, followed by committal services with Military Honors at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO at 1 pm. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Thursday at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Alzheimer Association, 3846 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208.
Paul was born in Detroit, MI Feb. 16, 1934. He began piano lessons when he was five at Michigan University and continued to play all of his life. The family moved to Kansas City when he was nine where he continued his piano studies eventually earning a B.A. degree in Music Education in 1957 and later a Masters degree from Central Missouri State University. He also studied piano at the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City. During his life he played the piano for hundreds of nursing homes, Young Audience concerts, numerous weddings and church programs plus years of teaching piano lessons. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Paul is an Army veteran and served at Camp Zama, Japan where he met his future wife, Eiko Arai. He used his musical talents in the service, playing for military programs and Japanese orphanages. He and Eiko were married in 1958 in Japan and moved to Independence in 1959.
Paul was a math, music and band director in both elementary and secondary schools in Independence, Kansas City and Raytown. He also taught math at Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, MO.
Paul is survived by his wife of fifty-three years Eiko, son David and his wife Kelly, grandchildren Jennifer, Chase, Carly and Mikes.
