Kay Mueller, 67, of Leawood, KS passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 at her home after a valiant nineteen year struggle with breast cancer. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2010 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. A private memorial for Kay’s family to celebrate her life is planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Kay was born August 15, 1943 in Independence, MO to Don and Libby (Friend) Stark. She loved music, art, flowers, and summers in the Northwest. Kay was a member of the Mission Road Community of Christ and served for many years in worship service and special events planning, art projects, and the congregation’s Mission Bells Choir. Kay had a large circle of friends, and made a lifelong impact on the lives of many special people. She had an easy presence about her, she never disappointed. While the cancer affected her physically during the final months of her life, her spirit, sense of humor and love of life were immune from the disease-a tribute to her strong will, love for family and friends, and an attitude of optimism. Kay never complained. She dealt with the disease courageously as she dealt with all of life-in a quiet, dignified, and private manner. Kay had a support network which included very special professionals from the Kansas City Cancer Center and Kansas City Hospice. Their compassionate treatment was balanced by a personal touch which made her journey easier. Many thanks to each. Kay’s family include her husband Richard; son Brian and wife Amie; daughter Kristen and husband Steve Rickman. Her four beautiful granddaughters were the highlight of her life. Mia and Zoe Rickman, Mara and Erin Mueller had a world class “grammy”. Kay had two lovely sisters, Liz Landes, and Marjory Buckley, and a brother Phil Stark. Liz was Kay’s constant companion during the final month of her life. Sister-in-law Rosemary Stark had a special place in Kay’s heart.
