Frances H. Mulliken, 85, Independence, MO passed away June 9, 2010. Services will be 10 am, Monday, June 14, 2010 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; interment at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 – 8 pm, Sunday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Outreach International.
Frances was born Nov. 16, 1924 in Independence, MO to Henry Hartman and Agnes (Closson) Hartman. She graduated from William Chrisman High School and attended St. Teresa College, Graceland College and Kansas City University, now called U.M.K.C. She was a member of the Community of Christ and spent most of her life working for the church. She worked in the Religious Education Dept, The Center Stake Bishopric, The Council of Twelve and two separate times for Herald Publishing House.
Frances was a writer who had many articles, poems and seven nonfiction books published. After twice serving as the President of the Kansas City Branch of the National League of American Pen Women, she served as the National President for a two-year term. She traveled to England, Europe, Greece, South America and Japan. Frances and Laurance R. Mulliken were married on Sept. 3, 1963.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband Laurance in 1968, her parents and six siblings. She is survived by son Ken Mulliken and wife Wendy Baughman; granddaughters Melanie Garrison and husband Jason, all of Independence, MO; Stephanie Merriott and husband Zach, Lee’s Summit, MO; and great-grandchildren Evan & Shaylen Garrison.
