Ralph “T.L.” Mydland, 94, Independence, MO, formerly of Horton, KS, passed away July 19, 2011. No services are scheduled. His cremated remains will be buried at Horton Cemetery, Horton, KS at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to John Knox Village Hospice House, 600 N.W. Pryor Rd, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081.
Ralph was born Aug. 1, 1916 in Baker, KS and later moved to Willis, KS where he graduated from high school. He spent a year in C.C.C. Camp. He was drafted and entered the Army at Ft. Leavenworth, KS in 1942. He served in the infantry in Europe and was captured at the Battle of the Bulge in Dec. 1944. He was in several P.O.W. camps in Germany. He was discharged as a Tec. Sgt. from Company F, 134th Regiment, 35th Division and received two Purple Hearts with the Oak Leaf Cluster and the P.O. W. Medal. After being discharged he went to school in Albany, MO to learn repairing watches and clocks. He resided in Horton, KS for a number of years before moving to Independence, MO where he lived for forty-five years.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Anna Mydland, brothers Elmer, Albert, Haldor and Melvin sisters Judith Biller and Alfreda Hall. He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Pearl Mydland, of the home; sons Ralph G. Mydland and Linda Barry, Kissimmee, FL; Lary L. Mydland and wife Kathy, Lathrop, MO; grandsons Ryan and wife Shannin, Faucett, MO; Brent and wife Kim, Bettendorf, IA; great-grandsons Monty and Rawley, Faucett, MO and numerous nieces and nephews.
