Vera E. Nace-Smith, 95, passed way Aug. 6, 2010 in Tipton, MO. Graveside services will be at 10 am, Wed., Aug. 11, 2010 at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 6 – 8 pm, Tuesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
Vera was born Feb. 7, 1915 on a farm in Tigress, MO. She moved to Independence at age eighteen, went to Beauty School and opened Vera’s Salon, which she operated for forty years until she retired in 1991. She was a longtime member of the Community of Christ Walnut Park congregation. It was there she met her husband, Milford Nace, and they were married Nov. 20, 1937. She was very active in her church teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. Following Milford’s death she married Gordon Smith.
Vera was preceded in death by husbands Milford Nace and Gordon Smith; brothers Charles and Zorum; and sisters Dallas and Beulah. She is survived by sons Norman E. Nace and wife Nancy; Renton, WA; James M. Nace and wife Susan, Phoenix, AZ; brother Cleo Norman, Sedalia, MO; five grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
