Mary F. Necessary (Collins)

June 2, 1927 — February 1, 2016

Mary F. Necessary, 88, of Kansas City, MO passed away Monday, February 1, 2016. A visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00pm Sunday, February 7th, at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Rosary will be recited at the chapel at 3:00pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:00pm Monday, February 8th at Nativity of Mary; 10017 E 36th Terr. Independence, MO. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mary was born June 2, 1927 to Patrick Michael and Theresa Agnes (Heier) Collins in Kansas City, MO. After graduation from Paseo High School, She worked as Executive Secretary to J.F. Pritchard, J.F. Pritchard Engineering Co. In 1971, after raising her children, she returned to the world of business employed as a secretary at UMKC. Later she was promoted to Associate Director and Continuing Legal Education Coordinator at the UMKC Law School until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of the Nativity School Parents Club and the Nativity of BVM Church Altar Society. She served on the Boards of the UMKC Women’s Club, the UMKC Retirees Association and was a member of the Association of the Ladies of Charity. Mary was a tour guide at the Bingham Waggoner Estate in Independence, MO and an Official Tourism Ambassador to the City of Independence. She enjoyed being with her husband, children, and grandchildren at their lake home in the Ozarks for many years. She also loved to play bridge and belonged to a number of bridge clubs. Mary was a devoted wife and caregiver.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, George Richard Necessary; brother, Edward Collins; and sister, Margaret Collins. Survivors include her daughter, Theresa Ware of Springfield, MO; son, Randall Necessary of Arkansas; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Mary will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. The family encourages contributions to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
