Leland Negaard

Leland Woodrow Negaard, 85, Lenexa, KS, passed away Monday, September 5, 2011 peacefully at his home.
Leland was born December 28, 1925 in Mobridge, SD the son of Raymond O. and Myrtle (Pederson) Negaard. He grew up on the family homestead in Sisseton, S.D. After graduating from high school, he attended Graceland University, Lamoni, IA, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, and Union Theological Seminary, New York, NY. He taught religious studies at Graceland University from 1960-1965. He served as chaplain at the Independence Sanitarium and counselor to the Graceland nursing students. He attended UMKC Law School, passing the bar in 1970 and was prosecuting attorney of Shannon, Carter, and Jackson counties in Missouri. He was a Mason, a Shriner, and a founding member of the Hemlock Society. Leland had various interests, including farming, gardening, and multiple creative pursuits that he shared with his family, friends and especially his beloved granddaughter.
Leland was preceded in death by his sisters, Jan Clevenger, and Myrna Maas; brothers, Raymond, Jr., Merle and Nolan Negaard.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sadi of 57 years, daughters, Doris Negaard, Kirsten Negaard, and Kerri Wade and her husband Eric; granddaughter, Brooke Wade; sisters, Nyla Schwartz and Rena Weed; brothers, Donald, Gene and John Negaard and their spouses; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial visitation will be Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Unicef or the charity of your choice.
