Sadi Negaard transitioned from this life on Sept. 14, 2015 from complications of a stroke. Born January 27, 1923 in Lamoni, Iowa, the only child of Willard and Elise Moon. She was raised on the family farm and the RLDS church (now Community of Christ). She took dance classes and music lessons, learning to play the piano and violin. She attended Lamoni High School and has maintained a newsletter for her classmates for many decades. Sadi attended Graceland College for two years. She graduated from Iowa University with a teaching degree. She worked as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines in the 1940’s and enjoyed going to New York to see the Rockettes. Sadi was married to Harley Nagel in 1949. They had one daughter, Doris Elizabeth. Harley was killed in a car accident in 1950. Sadi worked at the Herald House writing the children’s educational material for the RLDS Sunday School lessons. She remarried in 1954 to Leland Negaard. Together they were active in the church youth groups and lived in Albuquerque, NM, Leonia, NJ, and Lamoni, IA. They had 2 children together, Kirsten Elise and Kerri Randene. Sadi started Peter Rabbit Day School in Lamoni, Iowa where she cared for the children of Graceland College’s staff. She later received her Master’s degree from University of Missouri Kansas City specializing in reading. She taught elementary school in Scaritt Elementary School in Kansas City, Eminence, MO and Buckner Elementary School. She was an avid birdwatcher and wrote a news column for the Shannon County Current Wave called Birdwatcher's Almanac. She was a life long learner who enjoyed taking classes in and recording the history of Shannon County and learning about the native wildflowers. The past 10 years, Sadi lived in Shawnee, KS and Garden Villas of Lenexa, KS. She continued to be active in her church and with her family. Sadi is survived by her 3 daughters, Doris Negaard of Independence, MO, Kirsten Negaard of Eminence, MO and Kerri Wade, along with her son-in-law Eric Wade and her only granddaughter, Brooke Elise Wade of Lenexa, KS. A small private remembrance will be held with family at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice.
