James Monroe “Arkie” Nichols, 80, of Independence, MO peacefully passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10-11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. James was born June 6, 1928 in Mt. Judea, AR to Jim and Vesti (Freeman) Nichols. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Arkie retired from Allis Chalmers in 1993 after 27 years of service. He was a member of the Masonic Scottish Rite, and the Ararat Shrine Temple. Mr. Nichols is survived by his wife of 54 years, Juanita (Reddell); daughter Judy Donze and husband Sal; by three sisters and one brother.
