Billy W. “Nick” Nicodemus, 82, Independence, MO died Aug. 6, 2011 at his home. Services will be 10 am, Friday Aug. 12 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052; interment with Full Military Honors at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 pm, Thursday at the chapel. Mr. Nicodemus was born Dec. 16, 1928 in Buffalo, MO, the son of Harry Walter and Lena (Hayden) Nicodemus. He was a member of the Pebble Creek Assembly of God Church and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran having served in WW II and then again in the USMC Reserve during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed his family, church, gardening and fishing.
He retired from the GM Fairfax plant in 1979 after thirty years and was a member of UAW Local #31, American Legion Post #21 and was an Honorary Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.
He owned and operated Bill’s Small Engine Repair at his home until 1997.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Rosa Lee, infant brother Walter Lee and his daughter Carol A. Dooley in 1997. He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine and a half years Joyce E. Nicodemus, of the home; sons James W. Nicodemus and wife Marsha, Sugar Creek, MO; David D. Nicodemus and wife Julie, Buckner, MO; brother Harry L. Nicodemus and wife Hazel; sister Cora Mae Roberts, all of Springfield, MO; granddaughters Leah Eickhoff and husband Eric; Elizabeth Forney and husband Abe; Erin Goris and husband Grant; Shannon Nicodemus; great-grandchildren Deshaun, Jayda, Ayiana, Annelise, Shanna, Wyatt, Lauren, Eva and Ryan.
