Agnes Nieweg

Agnes Sophia (Czeschin) Nieweg, formerly of Independence, MO, passed away Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008 in Davenport, IA. Funeral services will be at 10 am, Wed., Sept. 3, 2008 at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, Independence, MO; burial will follow in Wellington, MO. Visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm, Tuesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence. In lieu of flowers, Agnes requested memorial contributions to St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, 727 N. Main, Independence, MO 64050.
Agnes was born Oct. 29, 1913 in Levasy, MO, daughter of Herman and Emma Czeschin. She married Elmer Nieweg on Feb. 20, 1944 in Wellington, MO; from there, she moved to Independence, MO in 1952.
Agnes was dedicated to her family and community, working in Independence schools, nursing homes, private homes and volunteering her many needlework talents through her church and various organizations. Mother only faltered in her remaining months and will be fondly remembered for her card-playing astuteness and with all the cherished quilted treasures she skillfully crafted.
Agnes was preceded in death by husband Elmer on Nov. 9, 1985, just short of forty-two years of marriage. Agnes joins her angels: son Melvin, grandson Alexander Spencer, sister Ella Piepmeier and brother Arthur Czeschin. She is survived by three children and their spouses: Gloria and Howard Adams, Hannibal, MO; Carol and Richard Spencer, Bettendorf, IA and Garland and Maryann Nieweg, Independence, MO. Along with her children, Agnes is also remembered by her nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, all of whom she considered a great blessing and joy. She is also survived by sister Marie Turley, Tulsa, OK; sister Nadine and brother-in-law Richard Butler, Raymore, MO; and sister-in-law Lurrene Czeschin, Grain Valley, MO.
