Harry F. Nihill, Jr., 88 of Blue Springs, MO, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 18, 2010. Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Wednesday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers Donations may be made in his name to the Crossroads Hospice. Harry was born October 25, 1922 in Independence, MO to Harry and Edith Nihill and has been a lifelong area resident graduating from William Chrisman High School. His knowledge of motor vehicle repair and driving ability aided him in his military service with the 9th Army during WWII. He drove trucks carrying supplies in support of the Battle of the Bulge and the allied push toward Germany. After returning home from the war, Harry and his father started Nihill Auto Sales. In 1948, they began selling outboard motors and later boats. He and his wife owned and operated Nihill Marine until 1982. In retirement, he enjoyed fishing during the winter at South Padre Island. He was married to Betty Osburn Nihill on June 20, 1942, and they enjoyed 57 years together before her death in 1999. Survivors include; two daughters and their husbands, Vicki and Ken Greathouse of Lee’s Summit, MO and Linda and Dave Webb of Blue Springs, MO; his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Clayton Iott; grandchildren, Scott and Todd Greathouse, Kristi Webb and Cheri Jones; great grandchildren, Tijen, Autumn, Schylar, Olive and Violet. The family wishes to thank Harry’s caregivers; Lynn, Jennifer, Peggy, Dawnita and Cindy from Home Instead Senior Care, who helped Harry remain in his home. They also wish to acknowledge care provided by the Crossroads Hospice staff.
