Barbara Jean (Boutross) Nolan, age 65 years, passed away at her home in Lees Summit, MO on October 13, 2010, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Her positive outlook and sense of humor were an inspiration to all. She was born on March 4, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Fred and Latify Boutross. Barbara attended parochial schools and was graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1963. She received an Associate Degree from Longview Community College. On July 24, 1965, she married Edward Keith Nolan, and to this union two daughters were born, Amy Marie and Angela Marie. Barbara was employed for three years in the 1990's for Sprint in Kansas City. Although she had been forced to go on disability several years before, she continued to work. She enjoyed her job very much, especially the associations with her co-workers. Barbara was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church. She served on two different HOA Boards, where she thoroughly enjoyed serving as President for several years. She was fond of playing many kinds of games, including Bingo.
Barbara's notable accomplishments were her relationships with people. She was a nurturing mother, and a "model" Grammy who showed absolute delight in her three grandchildren and their activities. She was a devoted sister, a caring aunt, a "favorite" cousin, and a fun-loving person who was a loyal friend to the many who had the privilege of knowing her. Barbara was known for her non-condemning spirit and caring ways. She leaves a legacy of warmth, compassion, graciousness, and kindness, and she will be sorely missed.
Barbara is survived by her two daughters and one son-in-law—Amy Marie Nolan Florell and husband, Scott, of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Angela Marie Nolan of Chicago, Illinois. Her grandchildren are Abigail Jean, Anna Grace, and Scott Robert, Jr. Florell of Salt Lake City, Utah. Her Sisters are Louise Malouff (Charles) of San Antonio, Texas, Mary Kay Boutross (sister-in-law) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Thelma Smith (Harold) of Kansas City, Rosalie Starkey (Charles) of Las Vegas, Nevada and Josephine Hines (Bill) of Kansas City, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who were close to her and who loved her dearly. Her parents and a brother, James Boutross, preceded her in death.
Per Barb’s request, the family warmly thanks Dr. Mark Davidner for 35 years of compassionate medical care.
Visitation will be held at St. Mark’s Catholic Church at 12:00 p.m. on October 19, 2010, followed by Mass at 1:00; inurnment at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
