Norma Dean Hanthorn, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away on December 15, 2025, in Independence, Missouri, surrounded by love. Born on September 7, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri, Norma touched the lives of many during her time on this earth.

A woman of nurturing spirit, Norma was known for her sweet demeanor and her love of cooking, always ensuring that family and friends had something delightful to snack on. Her favorite moments were spent sitting on the porch, sharing stories and laughter with those she cherished. She was not just a caregiver, but a beacon of warmth and hospitality, always eager to provide comfort and companionship.

Norma’s educational journey included some college studies, but her greatest lessons came from her life experiences and the love she cultivated in her family. She raised a family full of love and resilience, and her legacy continues through them.

Norma is survived by her devoted daughter, Penny Brundige, along with her partner John Cosens; her cherished grandchildren, Krystal Brundige and her partner Matt Rogers; Ronald Brundige and his partner Abbygail Schwind; and Jordon Brundige. Norma’s heart also swelled with pride for her great-grandsons, Nathanial, Bryson, and Kavin Brundige.

She is lovingly remembered by her son-in-law, Kevin DeVoss, and her brothers and sisters, Jerry Harris and his wife Denise, Ruth Cagle, John Harris, Sue Cottingham and her husband Randy, Charlie Harris and his wife Camilla, and Kenneth Buck Harris.

Norma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Hanthorn, and her dear daughter, Anita Jo O'Dell. She also mourned the loss of her granddaughter, Samantha Jo DeVoss, as well as her parents, John Sterling and Martha Nadine Harris, and her brother-in-law, Jr. Cagle, and son-in-law, Rodney W. Brundige.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Norma's life, with visitation taking place on January 6, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri. A graveside service will be held the following day, January 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Dresden Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest.

Norma's love and kindness will continue to inspire those who knew her. She brought joy into every gathering, and her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
