Joseph J. “Tino” Olvera, 81, of Independence, MO passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at his home. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2008 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Visitation will be 2-4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2008 in the chapel. Burial in Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. Contributions may be made to the Disabled Veteran’s Association. Joe was born January 26, 1926 in Standish, MO to Jose and Conception (Martinez) Olvera. He graduated from Carrollton High School before attending Chillicothe Business College. Mr. Olvera proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Italian Theater where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Joe retired from Hallmark Cards in 1988 after 22 years of service. Joe is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Phyllis (Kitchen) Olvera; son David Olvera and wife Jewell; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and son Eric Olvera; brother Frank Olvera and wife Delores, Ines Olvera and wife JoAnn. He was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
