Teddy O'Neal

Teddy Dean O'Neal, age 72, of Independence, MO passed away peacefully on Monday, May 14, 2012 at his home. Teddy was born August 1, 1939 to Lowell Alvin and Ruth Bertha Louise (Mueller) O'Neal near Coloma, MO. On September 1, 1957, in Carrollton, MO, Teddy married the love of his life, Patsy Sue Allwood, who survives of the home. To this union, they were blessed with four children. Mr. O'Neal attended the Carrollton Public Schools and was a member of the former King Glory Lutheran Church, Independence, MO. Teddy began his work career with Ford Motor Company in 1960 and retired 30 years later in 1990. After his retirement, he enjoyed working for two local farmers for many years, and rehabbed several homes in the area. He was co-owner of "All Season Campers" in Independence, MO for a number of years. Teddy was actively involved in various aspects of Boy Scout Troop 192 and became an honorary member in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was a member of the Independence 76 Masonic Lodge. Teddy enjoyed family gatherings, fishing, woodworking and gardening. He loved restoring tractors and looked forward to participating in a local charity tractor cruise each year. Teddy is survived by his wife, Patsy Sue, of 54 years; his children, Ronnie Gene O'Neal and wife, Sandy of Buckner, MO; Kathy Darlene Thornton and husband, Larry of Buckner, MO; and Kenny Joe O'Neal of Independence, MO; seven grandchildren, Shawn O'Neal, Ellen O'Neal, Chrissy Stark, Michael O'Neal, Amy McPherson, Randy Thornton, and Aspen O'Neal; sixteen great grandchildren, Darkkar and Karlee O'Neal, Stormy, Joey, Ariel, William and Kansas Elliott, Kayden, Jesse and Angela Castro, Jenna Crist, Trevor and Mackenzie McPherson, Ethan Thornton, and Cole and Allie Thornton; seven brothers, Eugene "Gene" O'Neal and wife, June of Lake Tapps, WA; Sammy O'Neal and wife, Joyce of Blue Springs, MO; Billie O'Neal and wife, Alta of Bogard, MO; Tommy O'Neal and wife, Bobbie of Springfield, MO; Jimmy O'Neal and wife, Debbie of Carrollton, MO; Rickey O'Neal and wife, Mimi of Navarre, FL; and Bobby O'Neal and Lou Ann Burton of Carrollton, MO; five sisters, Marcella Frederick and husband, Alan of Lompoc, CA; Jeanette Whitney and husband, Jim of Overland Park, KS; Donna Lee of Harrison, AR; Carol Suddith of Dawn, MO; and Patsy L. Shields and Douglas Shields of Carrollton, MO; sister-in-law, Deloris O'Neal; sisters and brothers-in-law Caroline Adkins and husband, Billy of Independence, MO; Wilmer "Tody" Allwood and wife, Bonnie of Norborne, MO; Ina Peterson and husband Virgil of Independence, MO; Phyllis Bowlin and husband, Bill of Lee's Summit; Aunt Veva Jean O'Neal of Bogard, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Rusty Dean O'Neal, granddaughter Amanda Sue Castro, grandson Jason Dean Thornton, one brother, Jerry Herman O'Neal, and two brothers-in-law, James Suddith and John Lee. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Speaks Buckner Chapel 300 Adams St., Buckner, MO 64016. Burial will follow in Buckner Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Friday evening at the chapel. Donations may be made in his name to the American Heart Association.
