Harvey Owings, Jr. 89, Lenexa, KS, formerly of Kansas City, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Shawnee Gardens.
Private graveside services will be at DeSoto Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Holmeswood Baptist Church, 9700 Holmes Rd. Kansas City, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sunflower Hospice or the Heart of America Boy Scouts.
Harvey was born January 14, 1920 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Harvey J. and Carolyne (Schares) Owings. He was a 1937 graduate of DeSoto High School and was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII. Harvey was retired from Appleton Electric as a Manufacturing Representative. He was a member of the American Legion, the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and was past Scout Master of Troop 115 in Kansas City. He enjoyed playing golf and reading. Harvey married Marjorie (Piper) on December 1, 1944. She preceded him in death on June 16, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his sons, Harvey Thomas Owings and his wife Dottie of Lake of the Ozarks; and Bruce Owings and his wife Sherry of Lenexa; grandchildren Andrew, Jake and Maggie Owings.
