Gene Palmer, 86, Portage, IN, formerly of Independence, MO, died Dec. 6, 2014. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Thursday at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Graveside services will be 1:30 pm, Friday at Botts Cemetery, five miles north of Meadville, MO. Gene was born in the Meadville area on July 6, 1928. He attended Meadville Elementary School, after which his parents moved to the K.C. area where he graduated from Westport High School. He joined the Carpenters’ Union in April of 1950 and was still a member when he died. Gene is survived by his brother Marvin Palmer and wife Carol, Chesterton, IN; two nieces and a grand-nephew.
