Robert Parker

Robert “Bob” Wayne Parker, 91, of Independence MO, passed away on March 2, 2013. Visitation will be held 6-8 pm, Tuesday, March 5 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Wed. at
St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 603 N. Jennings, Independence, MO 64056. Internment will be at New Salem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
Bob was born Feb. 1, 1922 in Glenwood, Iowa to Sanford Joy and Ada (Kinney) Parker. He was raised in southwest Iowa before joining the Army in 1940. He was a 5-year military veteran with Army Signal Corp. During WWII he served in the South Pacific for more than 3 years. Upon his discharge from the Army, he drove a bus between Des Moines, IA and Sioux Falls, SD. On one of these trips he met and eventually married Marjorie Ann Baird. Bob and family moved to Kansas City in 1954 where he began a career with Armco Steel. He retired from the metallurgical lab after 28 years.
Bob was preceded in death by his devoted wife Marjorie and loving son Roger L. Parker. He is survived by his children Jane M. Perez, John R. Parker, Alan W. Parker and Robin J. Cargill. Additionally, his eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren provided him great happiness. Bob held a special place in his heart for his adoring granddaughter, Amy Perez, who provided unwavering companionship and vigilant care when his health began to decline in his final years.
