George Wayne Parks, 83, Independence, MO, passed away Friday, September 21, 2012. No services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Department of Conservation or the Burr Oaks Nature Center.
George was born September 12, 1929 in Independence, MO the son of George Lawrence and Margaret Lee (McPherson) Parks. He grew up in northern Minnesota and later moved back to the Independence area. George was a U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean War. He worked as a finance manager for Century Finance and later retired from Medic House. George spent the last 15 years working at the Wild Bird Center in Independence. He loved sharing his knowledge of the outdoors with his family and friends. George also loved to spend time with his second family, his friends at Tonahill’s on 23rd St.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Schwartz and his parents.
Survivors include his loving wife Irene of 61 years; son, George Michael Parks and wife Marla Kay; daughter Kathleen Gustafson and husband Dave; grandchildren, George Morgan Parks and wife Fallon, Elizabeth Anne Hogg and husband Clint and Logan Michael Parks; great grandchildren, Niah, Zeller, Quinton, and Wisley and a brother Max Parks and wife Mary Kay.
