Joycie “Joyce” Rae (Hall) Parmley, 87, of Independence, MO, died peacefully on Saturday, February 12, 2011. She was born February 2, 1924, in Crawford County, Arkansas to Jesse Hall and Mary Ellen (Brewer) Hall. Joyce married Walter N. Scoggins in 1949 and they had 3 children. They moved to the Kansas City area in 1951. They later divorced and in 1962, Joyce married Charles Parmley. She worked at the Forum Cafeteria for many years, and later, operated a children’s day care from her home. Joyce was a kind and caring person who always put her family first. In her life, she demonstrated great courage and dignity when faced with turmoil and uncertainty. She was a long-time member of the Life Church of Kansas City, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She had a sweet spirit and a great love for children and God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Parmley; their infant son, Michael Charles Parmley; and all four of her siblings. She is survived by four children, Walter Scoggins, Jess Scoggins, Judy Gunderson, and Patti Parmley O'Neal, and by eight grandchildren, Chasity, JayeOlivia, Tommy, Stephen, Marianne, Caitlin, Casey, and Brad, and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO on Tuesday, February 15, from 6-8:00 p.m. The service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the chapel. Burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery.
