Alvin Parr, age 82, of Independence Mo. departed 3/27/09 after a brief struggle with lung cancer at KC Hospice House.
He was preceded in death by Albert and Hilda (Kern) Parr, his parents, Theodore Thieme, brother and Ruth Parr and Phylis Crenshaw, sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lou Etta Parr, sister, Doris McCool and daughters, Terry Waits, Joyce (Peter) Fortner, Vicki (Dave) Peck and Donna Harrison. His adoring grandchildren, Courtney and Paige Waits, Jessica (Mike) Donnerstein, Ryan (Brooke) Peck, Brooke (Matthew) Johnson, Lindsey Emery, Michael and Markus Harrison, five great-grand children and nieces and nephews.
Dedicated husband, father and "Papa", he will be remembered for his strong character and sense of humor by everyone who knew him. When facing illness, he showed tremendous strength and courage. He retired after forty-three years with the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He enjoyed his affiliations with the Masonic Lodge, American Legion, the Hillbilliys, the Moose Club, the Ararat Shrine and the Antique Auto Club. He was an avid boater, RVer and car afficionado. He served in WWII in the U.S. Army Infantry in the Philippines and Japan.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Carson Speaks Funeral Home, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, MO. Burial to follow at Mount Washington Forever Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
