Patricia "Joann" Brizendine, formerly known as Joann Rodriguez, peacefully passed away on June 12, 2025, in Oak Grove, Missouri. Born on December 31, 1955, in Kansas City, Missouri, Joann graced us with her warm spirit and infectious laughter for 69 unforgettable years.
Joann's educational journey began at Benjamin Harrison Elementary, culminating in her graduation from Northeast High School in 1974. She continued her growth through her studies in accounting at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she gathered multiple certifications that underscored her dedication and work ethic. Her career began at Hallmark Cards before she transitioned into a branch administrator position at Contractor Supply, later known as Hertz Equipment Rental. Beyond her professional life, Joann found joy in simple pleasures, such as spending time with her family and friends, enjoying the outdoors, and relishing time spent in Branson. A dedicated home decorator, she had a unique flair for beautifying her surroundings, transforming everyday spaces into celebrations with her thoughtful décor.
Joann never met a stranger; her bright personality and ability to engage in heartfelt conversations made everyone feel at home. With a smile that could light up the darkest room, she was a true ball of sunshine, embodying kindness, compassion, and a touch of feistiness when necessary. Joann’s love for family was immeasurable, and her daughter and grandchildren were undoubtedly her proudest accomplishments. She reveled in sharing stories and bragging about them, showcasing not only her love but also her deep connection to those special bonds.
Joann was immensely beautiful, both inside and out. Her kindness, coupled with her vivacious personality, touched everyone who had the honor to know her. Her legacy of love and laughter lives on through her daughter, Maria Johnston (Sean) of Raytown; her grandchildren, Domonique Johnston, Chanelle Johnston, and Jay Johnston; her sister, Connie Blackburn of Nettleton; and her uncle, Max Luper of Independence, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her passing was preceded by her parents, Leslie and Leona McBrayer; her sister, Bonnie Delarber; and her uncle, Albert Luper.
A memorial visitation will be held on June 24, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service beginning at 2:00 PM at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 East 39th St S, Independence, MO 64055.
