Harl R. Payne, 82, of Independence, MO
Passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Rosewood Health Center. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2009 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 603 N. Jennings Rd. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1-2:00 p.m. at church. Burial in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church or Crossroads Hospice, 9237 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64114. Harl was born February 17, 1927 in Gilman City, MO to George and Fanny (Dowell) Payne. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, was a Mason, a member of the U.A.W. local 93 and was a faithful member of the church. Mr. Payne retired after 40 years of dedicated service from the General Motors Leeds plant. Harl is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ruth (Overstreet) Payne; son David Payne and wife Julie; daughter Susan Opper and husband Samuel; grandchildren Elaine Opper, Daniel Opper, Vivianne and Francesca Payne; brother Lloyd Payne; sisters Cynthia Church, Loretta Downs and by numerous nieces and nephews.
