Harold J. Payne, Sr., Independence, MO passed away Saturday, February 23, 2013 at his residence. Visitation will be from 1-3pm Wed Feb 27, 2013 at New Hope Baptist Church, 18000 Lexington Rd. Independence, MO. Funeral services will be at 3pm Wed Feb 27, 2013 at the church. Burial will follow at Six Mile Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Outreach International. Harold was born October 16, 1930 in Henrietta MO one of 14 children to William and Wilma (Conklin) Payne. He went to work at an early age in the farm fields and continued to be a hard worker all of his life. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Armco Steel for 30 years before retiring in 1982. He then worked for the next 12 years building houses. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, mushroom hunting and refinishing furniture. He was a charter member of the New Hope Baptist Church where he served as trustee, Mission secretary and head usher. He was a member of the Steel Workers Union. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary of the home; 3 sons, Harold J. Payne, Jr. and his wife Bonnie of Houston, TX, Raymond Payne and his wife Kelly of Independence, MO and Robert Payne and his wife Missy of Lee’s Summit, MO; 5 brothers, Richard Payne of Odessa, MO. Clarence Payne of Wellington, MO, James Payne of Warrensburg, MO, Tessie Payne and Donald Payne of Richmond, MO; 4 sisters, Judy Cobb of Odessa, MO, Mary Rippy of Richmond, MO, Liz Heyer of Columbia, MO and Barbara Flanagan of Blue Springs, MO; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Bill, Kenneth and Alvin and a sister, Dorothy Howard.
