Alcidene (Turney) Pendleton, 88, of Independence, MO was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Carson Speaks Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10-11:00 a.m. Burial in Valley Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Northern Boulevard UMC General Fund, 1800 S. Northern, Independence, MO 64052. Alcidene was born February 13, 1921 in Altus, OK to William and Jewell (Grimes) Turney and had lived in Independence since 1945. She worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. in her younger years and for about five years at the Holy Land Christian Mission in the 80’s. Mrs. Pendleton attended Carlisle grade school and graduated from Northeast High School. She served on the Kansas City Missouri Council PTA Board of Directors as Treasurer and held several Chairmanships. Alcidene also served as a Trustee on the Mary Harmon Weeks Board of Directors for more than 40 years. Mrs. Pendleton was a PTA President at both Nowlin Junior High and Van Horn High Schools. For more than 50 years she has been a member of the Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church where for more than 30 years she taught children Sunday School classes and sang in the church choir. In addition, she spent many years as a member of the United Methodist Women. Alcidene is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, John C. Pendleton, Sr.; daughter Pamela Atkins, son John C. Pendleton, Jr.; grandchildren Darin Atkins, Michelle Nieweg, Dustin Pendleton; four great-grandchildren; brothers Bill Turney, Ed Turney; sisters Lorene Henderson, Ilene Turney, Nadene Legant.
