Essie “Mickey” Perkins, 99, of Kansas City, MO passed away December 27, 2011. A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 a.m., followed by an 11:00 a.m. service on Monday, January 2, 2012 at Central United Methodist Church, 5144 Oak Street, Kansas City, MO 64112. Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, KS. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Central UMC or the Salvation Army. Mrs. Perkins was born September 7, 1912 in Nettleton, MO to John and Emma (Stark) McLaughlin. Before retirement, she worked as an executive secretary, however, her first job in Kansas City was as a “Harvey Girl” at Union Station. She enjoyed playing bridge and giving book reviews. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church for over 60 years, where she taught adult Sunday School, was a founding member of the Crusaders Class and served on many church committees. She was a member of P.E.O. and a longtime member of Hillcrest Country Club. Mickey was preceded in death by her adored husband, Don Perkins in 1984. She is survived by one son, Jim Perkins and wife Cynthia Schuetz of Grass Valley, CA; two nieces, Stephanie Brown and husband Bob Harris of Menlo Park, CA, Bobbie Bachetti of Fresno, CA; one nephew, John Brown of Pocatello, ID; and special friends, Vanita and Bill Grubb of Raytown, MO, Gary and Laura Wesche, Beth McLaren and Jane Silver, all of Kansas City, MO.
