Maxine Petitt Johnstone

Maxine Dolores Petitt Johnstone, 91 of Independence, MO, passed away, Monday, March 9, 2009 at the Rosewood Health Center. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Groves Hospice. Maxine was born December 13, 1917 in Butte, MT to George W. and Rosa Leona (Rundell) Paul. Maxine worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell for over 35 years before she retired in 1982. She and her husband also owned and operated P&D Pharmacy from the 1950’s until the early 1980’s. She was a member of the RLDS and later the Community of Christ Church and the Telephone Pioneers Club. She is survived by; a daughter, Wanda Perkins of Alexandria, VA; and 2 grandchildren, Terry Axsom of Roeland Park, KS and Rick Axsom Kearney, MO. She was preceded in death by her first husband Frank Johnstone, who died in May of 1968 and her second husband, Leonard Petitt who died in November of 1977.
