Juanita Mae Pickerill, 92, of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015. A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00pm Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Carson Speaks Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2:00pm at the chapel. Burial will be at Mound Grove Cemetery.
Juanita was born to Charles Alma and Cecile Myra (West) Kramer on August 10, 1922 in Rolla, KS. She was baptized in 1931 into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Juanita graduated from Northeast High School class of 1939 and attended Kansas City Business College where she met the love of her life, Virgil L. Pickerill. They were married April 19, 1942 and relocated to California where he served in the U.S. Army in WWII. After the war, they settled in Independence where they raised three children Jean Marie, Alice Ann, and James Donald. After the death of her husband in 1964, Juanita worked as the Recorder for the Center Stake office of the Community of Christ Church for 15 years before retiring. She has been a life long member of the church and actively supported the Mt. Washington, College Park, and The Groves congregations. She also participated as a Girl Scout Leader, PTA, Church Choir and Quartet, Jackson County Election Board Commissioner Judge, hospital volunteer, neighborhood councils, Habitat for Humanities volunteer, and all of this to lead her family in an example of a generous, gracious, kind, gentle, faithful Christian, and loving mother and grandmother. She is loved and will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include daughter, Jean Orrison and husband Jerry of Huntington Beach, CA; and Alice Stueve and husband Eric of Lee’s Summit, MO; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, and beloved son, James. The family encourages contributions to Habitat for Humanities in her memory.
