Hortensia J. Pinon, 81, Independence, MO passed away Jan. 1, 2012. Services will be 10 am, Friday, Jan. 6 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055; interment at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6–8 pm, Thursday at the chapel.
Hortensia, known as “Nana” to her family, was born April 1, 1930 in Eagle Pass, TX. She was a longtime Independence resident and had worked for the Independence School District in Food Service for over ten years before retiring in 1999. She had worked at William Chrisman High School, Bridger Jr. High and Glendale Elementary. She was a fantastic cook who loved to quilt and sew for her family as well. She was of the Catholic faith.
Hortensia was preceded in death by her husband Osvaldo Pinon, sister Ofelia Jimenez and brother Pedro Jimenez. She is survived by daughters Sylvia Sheridan, Providence, TX; Juanita Piedimonte, Harrisonville, MO; sister Dolores Martinez and husband Pablo, Anaheim, CA; grandchildren Joseph Savage, Independence, MO; Sonia Hurshman and husband Troy, Buckner, MO; Nicholas Piedimonte and wife Lisa, Independence, MO; great-grandchildren Dylan, Mackenzie, Makayla, Colin and Kaden.
