Charles “Chuck” Pixley, 59, of Independence, MO passed away suddenly on Friday, November 6, 2009. A memorial visitation will take place from 1-2:00 p.m. with a 2:00 memorial service to follow on Thursday, November 12, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Chuck was born January 29, 1950 in Independence, MO. He grew up in East Independence and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1967, as well as graduating from UMKC, where he earned his business degree. Chuck served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era aboard the USS Iwo Jima as a radar man. His ship was the ship that rescued the Apollo 13 astronauts and their capsule. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wm Lawrence and Juanita K. (Hunt) Pixley. He is survived by five sisters, Patricia Hodges and her husband Bill, Sandy Kettner and her husband Bud, Sherry Frank, Brenda Gann and her husband Dan, and Pamela Sparks; seven nieces; six nephews; and great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews too numerous to count. We will all miss him, but we know he is in a better place now.
