Homer L. Potter, 82 of Independence, MO, passed away, Friday, November 21, 2008 at his residence. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Graveside services with full military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Big Creek Cemetery in Bosworth, MO. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at the chapel. Homer was born August 3, 1926 in Triplett, MO to John L. and Stella M. (Dawson) Potter. He had worked as a maintenance repairman for Lafarge and Missouri Portland Cement for over 31 years until he retired in 1984. Homer enjoyed woodcrafts, tractor pulls, and traveling, especially cruises. He was a member of the Hidden Valley Christian Union Church. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joann (Watts) of the home; a daughter, Sharon A. Wiley and her husband, John of Blue Springs; a son, Franklin L. Potter and his wife Patricia of Carrollton, MO; 2 brothers, Charles N. Potter and William L. Potter both of Independence, MO; 3 sisters, Sue Harden of Carrollton, MO, Mary A. Emmet of Independence, MO and Dorothy Grossman of Bosworth, MO; 7 grandchildren, Lori Cox, Jennifer Glasgow, Darrin Potter, Johnna Freeman, Jaime Potter, Scott McBee and Travis McBee; 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
